Kettlebell Handles in the Nineteen Hundreds

In the mid nineteen hundreds all weight lifting sets used to come with handles to allow dumbbells to be transformed into kettlebells.

They are commonly referred to nowadays as ‘plate loaded kettlebells’.

    Back then, most lifters did the Olympic-style lifts rather than power-lifting style lifts (or bodybuilding isolation lifts) that are popular today. Since kettlebells are OK for dynamic, olympic lifts, handles were considered a mandatory piece of equipment.
